Talking Dogs

Now I have to admit, when I saw this, I must have replayed it over and over. It was amazing to hear these dogs actually speaking, or at least mimicking words. Regardless, it was amazing. I had to share this clip with all of you.

My ultimate favorite is the very last dog. You have to check this out. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Pincushion Idea

Here is a great suggestion for using the Pumpkin Pincushion. This was sent to me by a fellow blogger. She is planning on making several of these pumpkins and using them as name place holders for her Thanksgiving dinner. She plans on writing the names of her guests on card stock and pinning them to the little pumpkins. Might even be a great give away too for each guest. With the holidays right around the corner, great ideas like these are really appreciated. Thank you for letting me share this idea with my fellow bloggers.

Daisy Pincushion

Here is a variation to the Crocheted Pumpkin Pincushion. I call this a Daisy Pincushion. It is the same pattern as the Pumpkin Pincushion, with a few changes. First, I omitted the leaves and used a decorative button instead. I used Lion Brand Pound of Love in Turquoise, same hook size and contrasting black yarn for sectioning the daisy. You can make this with many variations. I thought I would share this with you.
Enjoy!

Award

Another late post - Thank you Cross My Heart Jewelry - I am truly honored with these awards. I apologize for posting so late.

Award

I truly apologize for posting this so late. My fellow Raveler and blogger Teskedsmamman presented this award to me. I have to be honest - when I received the last award, I distriibuted it as requested and not many responded, which was disappointing. So I will just post this award and thank Teskedsmamman for thinking of me. Thank you, I am honored.

New Yarn

I came across this new yarn by Lion Brand (Vanna's Glamour) - it is a fine yarn with sparkling specks throughout the yarn, so I picked up 2 skeins (no self control, lol) and decided to knit a scarf. I used a 10-1/2" straight needle and used a seed stitch. I wanted the scarf to have a slight airy look yet not too airy and I also didnt want a tight stitch. I have to say the pictures dont do this yarn any justice. It is beautiful. My color choice was copper with bronze shiny specks. Will be really pretty for the holidays. Here we are, end of August, the holidays just a blink away. So I decided to start some gifts ahead of time. It looks really nice. What do you think?

It has been sooooo hot here the last few days there is no energy to do anything let alone knit.

The scarf slowly coming along.

I will post a picture when I am done.

Rnd 2: Sc around body by inserting crochet hook into each stitch = 25 sc around.
Fasten off, weave in yarn.
Note: It is ok if you have a couple more or less stitches.

To make the “grass” for the hoola skirt:
Rnd 1: With Bubble Gum Color Yarn, cut 4 – 6” pieces. Fold in half and pull through waist band stitch – pull yarn through loop to form a fringe.
Continue around until the hoola skirt is completely covered with fringe, approximately 18 pieces of fringe. Again, depending on the yarn you use, you may have a few more or a few less fringe. It is ok. Continue with fringe until entire skirt is complete. Place your fringe as close together as possible.
Rnd 2: Trim fringe – it should cover the bottom of the body.
NOTE: You will trim the fringe skirt after you are done.

Rnd 18: Sc around where you started the first HDC. Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing hoodie on head.

Ears: (Make 2) With Black Yarn, ch 2
Rnd 1. Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: Sc around
Rnd 4: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 7-17: Sc around
Rnd 18: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 19: *Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 20: *Sc in first sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 10 sc
Rnd 21-22: Sc around Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

To shape tip of ears, gently push the end of your crochet hook into ear to give the tip a slight point. Be careful not to poke a hole through the tip of the ear.

At this point, you will insert the head into the hoodie. Position ears on each side of hoodie. Make sure the point of the hoodie is on the front of the head. Sew hoodie and ears on head. Weave in yarn. Glue the 1” black pompoms on the tip of each ear – set aside and allow to dry.

TIP: Any time I work with gluing a small piece or spot, I always use a toothpick to apply the glue. This gives more control on the amount of glue you apply. Now we work on the body.

Body:
With White Yarn, Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 30 sc
Rnd 7: *Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 35 sc
Rnd 8: *Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 40 sc
Rnd 9: *Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 45 sc
Rnds 10-19: Sc in each sc around
Rnd 20: *Sc in next 7 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 40 sc
Rnd 21: *Sc in next 6 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 35 sc
Rnd 22: *Sc in next 5 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 30 sc
Rnd 23: *Sc in next 4 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 24: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 25: *Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Fasten off – stuff body. Sew opening closed. Weave in yarn. Shape bottom base so body can stand.

Collar:
With Black Yarn –
Rnd 1: Insert crochet hook on top of body – pull yarn and make a loop. Sl St loop to secure.
Rnd 2: Insert hook through each st on top of body and sc around = approximately 7 sc around
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in each sc around = 14 sc Rnd 4: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 21 sc Rnd 5: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 s c in next sc*, repeat from * around = 28 sc Rnd 6-7: Sc in ea sc around Rnd 8: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 35 sc Rnd 9: Sc around

Now you will make the little points on the collar for the pompoms.

Rnd 10: *Sl st next 5 sc, work 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 TRC, 1 DC, 1 HDC in next sc, sl st next 5 sc*, repeat from * around (You will have a total of 5 points). Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (You will be using this piece of yarn to sew the head on to the body).
Now you will glue the 5 – 1/2” pompoms on each point. Apply a small drop of glue on to the tip of each crocheted point on the collar. Attach the pompom. Set aside and allow to dry.

TIP: To control the amount of glue applied to each tip, use a toothpick. Apply the glue to the toothpick, then place the glue on the tip of each point on the collar.

NOTE: When you attach the head, position the head so you have two of the collar points in front, one over each arm, and one on the back. That balances the collar perfectly.

You will cut out a small skull out of pink felt. My skull measured 1” across and 1-1/4 ” long. Make the skull proportionate to the size of the dolls head. Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the skull (use a toothpick to spread the glue) and attach to the front of the cap. Set aside and allow to dry.

Arms: (Make 2)
With White Yarn, Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4-16: Sc around
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff arms lightly. Do not stuff all the way to the top – you will need a flat surface to sew the arms on to the body to avoid a bulky appearance.

Legs: (make 2)
With White Yarn, Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4-9: Sc around Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff legs lightly.

To Assemble:
1. Attach head to body.
2. Attach arms under the collar.
3. Attach legs.
4. With black embroidery floss, sew eyelashes (stitch just above the safety eye to give your Kuromi a “bad” look)
5. With pink embroidery floss sew nose.

Your Large Amigurumi Kuromi Doll is complete!
Doll measures 7” tall from bottom of base to top of head (not including ears).

Where Did The Time Go?

It doesnt surprise me that time is just flying by. Here we are midpoint of 2009 - it feels like yesterday I posted a Happy New Year wish. I have been so busy with personal issues, I havent had the time or motivation or energy to crochet anything. Family issues and personal. I am spread so thin these days I am totally exhausted to even pick up the crochet hook. I hope to have some new things real soon, as soon as things calm down a bit for me here at home.

A Special Day

Sunday May 10 is Mother's Day - I want to take a minute and wish every "MOM" a special happy day, filled with joy and surrounded by loved ones and family. I selected a special poem for this day and wanted to share it with everyone....

What is a mother
A heart that can hear every unspoken need,
Wisdom to know when to quietly lead,
Hands that reach out, always helping and sharing–
A mother is caring!
Eyes that reflect every joy that you find,
Arms to encircle, but never to bind,
A talent for making the most out of living–
A mother is giving!
A voice that can soothe or inspire or delight,
A smile that keeps shining when things don't go right,
An angel God sends us from Heaven above–
A mother is nothing but caring, giving and love.

I Am Back... Again

Well, I think I am back again. So much has happened in the past several weeks. I havent posted anything in a while. Alot of personal problems I had to tend to (and still taking care of), so my postings may be a bit random and not as regular as I would like. But I will try to get back into the swing of things again.

Rnd 15: Sl st in next sc, work 1 HDC in next st, 1 DC in next st, 1 TRC in next st, 1 DC in next st, 1 HDC in next st, sl st in next st. (This will make the point on the hoodie). Fasten off; leave a long tail for sewing hoodie on head.

Ears: (Make 2)
With Black Yarn, ch 2
Rnd 1. Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: Sc around

Rnd 9: *Sc in first sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 10 sc
Rnd 10-11: Sc around
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

To shape tip of ears, gently push the end of your crochet hook into ear to give the tip a slight point. Be careful not to poke a hole through the tip of the ears.

At this point, you will insert the head into the hoodie. Position ears on each side of hoodie. Sew ears on head. Sew hoodie on head. Weave in yarn. Glue the 1/2” black pompom on the tip of each ear – set aside and allow to dry.
TIP: Any time I work with gluing a small piece or spot, I always use a toothpick to apply the glue. This gives more control on the amount of glue you apply.

Body:
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in second sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc

Rnd 13: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 14: *Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 15: *Sc in next sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 10 sc
Fasten off leave long tail; stuff firmly. Sew opening closed (this will be the bottom). Weave in yarn. Flatten bottom so doll can stand.

Collar:With Black Yarn –
1. Insert crochet hook on top of body – pull yarn and make a loop. Sl St loop to secure.

2. Insert hook through each st on top of body and sc around = approximately 7 sc around
NOTE: Depending on yarn you use the amount of sc around will vary – with the yarn I used, I got 7 sc around. My numbers are just approximates.

3. Work 2 sc in each sc around = approximately 14 sc
4. *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = approximately 21 sc
5. *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around (Work 2 sc in last sc) = approximately 30 sc

Now you will make the little points on the collar for the pompoms.
6. *Sl st next 4 sc, work 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 HDC in next sc, sl st next 4 sc*, repeat from * around (You will have a total of 5 points).Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. Weave yarn to top of body.

You will cut out a small skull out of pink felt. My skull measured 1/2” across and 3/4” long. Make the skull proportionate to the size of the dolls head. Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the skull (use a toothpick to spread the glue) and attach to the front of the cap. Set aside and allow to dry.

Felt Skull
Cut a piece of pink felt in this pattern - make skull porportioned to size of doll's head.

Arms: (Make 2)Ch 2Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3-12: Sc aroundFasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Lightly stuff arms.

I finished a few new items - will get the patterns up in the next couple of days. Sanrio has new character called Kuromi - absolutely adorable! Needless to say my daughter wanted one, so here is Kuromi.
Both measure 5" tall.
I will get the patterns posted this weekend, hopefully.

Flowered

Another treat - an original painting from my daughter, titled Flowered. Isnt it beautiful? She is going to spoil me! She is so talented, writes poetry, an artist and even writes her own music (she plays base guitar). She celebrated her 30th birthday on March 2nd - actually, we celebrated her birthday all week, lol. Went out for dinner, showered her with gifts (lots of art supplies), and more goodies. Have I mentioned how special she is? (I think I have.... hehehe).

Amigurumi Tutorial - Thread Jointing

Thread jointing your amigurumi gives your finished toy a more flexible finished product. Thread jointing is not that difficult to do. I have had several requests on this process so I decided to post a little tutorial for this.
THREAD JOINTING (See Diagram Below)
1. Insert needle into inside of arm (“Start Here”) and run through body – bring out other end of body where second arm will be positioned.

2. Run needle inside of second arm and bring needle through body and through inside of first arm. Pull tightly. You don’t want the stitches to show on the outside of arms so when you are jointing the arms and legs, run needle through the inside.

3. Bring needle through body and run through inside of first arm – this reinforces your stitch.

4. Run needle through body and bring out inside of second arm, secure thread inside second arm – to reinforce, run thread through inside of arm a couple times and trim.

Follow same instructions for legs.

Waxed thread is available at crafts stores. If you are unable to get waxed thread, dental floss works just as well and is more readily available.

Give thread jointing a try next time you are working on your amigurumi. It isnt as difficult as it sounds.

As always, if you want the PDF on this tutorial, send me an email and I will send it to you.

Happy Crocheting!

Amigurumi Sackboy Lookalike Doll

Ok here he is - I had many requests for this pattern. I was leary in posting it due to copyright issues, but I suppose a freebie is ok. So here he, your Sackboy pattern:

Materials:
Size US G/ 4.0 mm crochet hook
Caron Wintuk – Nutmeg
Small Amount of Worsted Weight Yarn = Taupe
Small Amount of Worsted Weight Yarn = Black
12mm Black Eyes = 1 pair
Blunt Needle for Sewing
Polyester Fiberfill
3” or 4” Metal Zipper (Zipper will be trimmed before sewing on body).
Aleene’s Tacky Glue

Abbreviations:
SC = Single Crochet
Ch = Chain
Rnd(s) = Round(s)
Beg = Beginning
Sts = Stitches
2tog = Crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
* = Repeat stitches from * to end of *

Pattern Notes:
1. This pattern is worked in continuous rounds; do not join and do not turn. Use stitch marker to indicate beginning of rounds.
2. Yarns listed is what I used – size may vary with other yarns.
3. May not be safe for small children.

Head:
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 30 sc
Rnd 7-14: Sc around
Rnd 15: *Sc in next 4 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 25 sc
Rnd 16: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Fasten off. Do not sew opening closed. Leave a long tail for sewing.
(NOTE: Make sure you have a really long piece of yarn remaining, you will be using this yarn to trim the zipper).

Cap (Top of Head):
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 20 sc
Rnd 4: Sc around
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

To Assemble head:
1. Position and insert safety eyes.
2. Stuff head firmly.
3. Position and stitch cap on top of head so stitches won’t show.
4. With contrasting yarn, make long stitches on top of head.
5. With black yarn, sew a smiley mouth.
(Note: Leave the long piece of yarn for trimming the zipper - DO NOT cut or weave in)

Head is complete – now to work on body.

Body:
Rnd 6-13: Sc around
Rnd 14: *Sc in next 3 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 20 sc
Rnd 15: *Sc in next 2 sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 15 sc
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff body firmly. Sew opening closed. Flatten bottom.

Attaching the Zipper:
1. Trim the zipper to 2-1/2” (or the length of your completed body.) Measure from the center top all the way down to bottom part of body. If you can find a 3” metal zipper, that would be ideal, but I found it difficult to find. I used a 4" zipper and used metal cutting scissors to trim the metal portion of the zipper. I trimmed the sides down as well. I found it easier to glue the zipper down to the body. This way there are no stitch marks.
2. Pin the zipper to the body with the top part of the zipper (just above the metal flap) fitted over the top part of the body. When you place the head it will not show.
3. Sew the head on to the body - the top part of the zipper should be concealed when the head is sewn.
4. Attach head firmly.
5. Apply a liberal amount of glue on to the back of the zipper and press down against the body.
6. Hold down for a few seconds. Keep pressing the zipper down intermittently. Make sure all edges are glued. Allow to dry.
7. Apply a thin strip of glue right at the edges of the zipper all around– use a toothpick to apply the glue. (See Fig 1)
8. Use the yarn left from attaching the head - you will glue this yarn at the edge of the zipper. This will finish the edges and prevent fraying. Press down firmly and allow to dry. (See Fig 2)

Fig 1
Apply a thin strip of glue around edge of zipper

Fig 2
Bring leftover yarn over and glue to sides of zipper - press firmly and allow to dry.

Now for the arms and legs.

Arms (Make 2):
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3-11: Sc around
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff arms lightly – do not sew opening closed.

Legs (Make 2):
Ch 2 (leave a long tail for sewing when starting chain)
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 3-10: Sc around
Rnd 11: 2 HDC in next 4 sc (8 HDC total), sc remaining sts = 14 sts
Stuff leg.
Rnd 12-13: Sc around
Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew foot closed. Finish stuffing leg. Sew opening closed.

To Assemble Sackboy:
1. Attach arms.
2. Attach legs.
3. With taupe yarn, sew stitch markings around wrist and down outside of legs (on the side).
4. To sew thumb, double thread needle with yarn and stitch back and forth 5 times.
5. Weave in all loose yarn.
NOTE: I Thread Jointed the legs. If you need help with thread jointing, let me know and I will send you a PDF tutorial.

Rnd 13: *Sc in next sc, sc 2tog*, repeat from * around = 10 sc
Fasten off leave long tail; stuff firmly. Sew opening closed.

Arms: (Make 2)
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 5 sc in second ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2-6: Sc aroundFasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff arms.

Legs (Make 2):
Ch 2
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 2-4: Sc around
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff leg.

Bow:
Ch 8
Rnd 1: Sc in second ch from hook, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 2-6: Sc across, ch 1, turn.
Fasten off on last sc row, leave long tail for sewing.

To Form Bow:
1. Weave in short piece of yarn (where ch was started) to center;
2. Weave in long tail to center;

3. Pinch center and wrap long tail around several times (5 times);4. Thread through blunt needle and secure by running under the wrapped part, bringing it out; secure firmly.

Gown:
1.With Maroon Yarn, insert crochet hook in sc on top of body and pull yarn through to form a loop, secure;

2. Sc around top of body through each sc, inserting hook directly through sc on body = approximately
10 sc

3. Work 2 sc in ea sc = 20 sc

4. *Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat from * around = 30 sc

5. At this point, HDC in ea sc around for 8 rnds, or until gown reaches bottom of body base.
Fasten off, weave in yarn.
NOTE: Count for gown is approximate – if you have a few less or a few more stitches in the gown, it is ok. Continue crocheting until gown reaches bottom of base.

6. Use a toothbrush and brush the gown gently – go up and down then side to side. This will give her gown a fuzzy appearance. The more you brush, the fuzzier the yarn. Patons Lacette is a mohair blend yarn – brushing will make the yarn appearance fuzzy.

To Make Wings:
NOTE: Because Patons Lacette is a light fingering yarn, crochet the wings holding 2 strands together. This will give the wings substance.
Rnd 1: Ch 2
Rnd 2: Work 5 sc in sec ch from hook = 5 sc
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in ea sc around = 10 sc
Rnd 4: Sc in ea of the next 7 sc, ch 1, turn
At this point, you will be crocheting back and forth, not in the round.
Rnd 5-9: Sc across, ch 1, turn. Do not ch 1 at end of last row.
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

To Form Halo:
1. Measure 4” and cut silver tinsel pipe cleaner. Fold the pipe cleaner to form an “L” shape (one end will measure 1-1/2”).

2. Form the long end into a circle with a slight overlap.

3. Wrap the overlap end of circle around once to secure.

To Form Magic Wand:
1. Measure 7” and cut silver pipe cleaner.
2. Curl the tip into a continuous circle 10 turns.
3. Bring bottom end of wand and weave through last circle by inserting into the circle and pulling out through the back.
4. This will secure the circle and prevent it from uncurling.

To Assemble:
1. Attach head to body.
2. Attach arms, just below head.
3. Attach legs.
4. Attach bow.
5. Insert halo in center of head – apply a small amount of glue to tip of halo before inserting in head.
6. Insert wand into hand.
7. Attach wings.
8. Using pink embroidery floss, sew nose.

Your Amigurumi Fairy Kitty is finished! (Make a wish!)

Doll measures 4-1/4” Tall.

Tutorial - Felting Needles

USING THE FELTING NEEDLE

I recently started needle felting with wool roving and found it to be extremely rewarding creating miniature dogs, bears and other animals. I also found the felting needle quite useful in my amigurumi. I use the felting needle to incorporate felt pieces to my amigurumi. For example, if you want a little red felt tongue for an amigurumi dog, you can use the felting needle to weave that felt piece into your amigurumi. Here’s how:

1. Cut the felt piece the exact size you need.
2. Position felt piece.
3. Use felting needle to adhere by using fast poking strokes.

The end result is clean, no stitch or glue marks.

Here are some examples:

Felt Mouse Ears:
1. Cut the felt ears exact size.
2. Position ears on mouse.
3. With felting needle, use quick strokes to poke the felt into the crocheted mouse.
The ears are attached and has a clean finish.

Doggie Tongue:
1. Cut the felt tongue exact size.
2. Position tongue on dog just below the nose.
3. With felting needle, use quick strokes to poke the felt into the crocheted dog.
The tongue is attached and has a clean finish.

Bear Foot Pads:
1. Cut two pieces of felt to fit the bottom of the foot.
2. Position felt piece on bottom of foot,
3. With felting needle, use quick strokes to poke the felt into the bottom of foot.
The felt is attached to the bottom of the bear’s foot and has a clean finish.

Position the felt piece on the bottom of the foot. With the felting needle, poke the felt into the bottom of the foot around the edges only. Use caution – needle is very, very sharp.

Continue “poking” the needle through the felt into the foot along the edges.
Follow same procedure for the other foot.

Felted pads complete.

Rag Doll Nose – The felt piece here was cut in a triangle and “felted” onto the head utilizing the felting needle. The finish is clean with no stitch marks or glue residue.

Try incorporating other uses for this remarkable little tool. You can purchase this tool anywhere they sell needle felting supplies. I purchased mine from:

Do a search under “needle felting” and you can see the felting needles and other accessories. They also sell protective plastic tubes to store your needles in. It is a small investment to give your amigurumi that special finish.

Protective Tubes for Felting Needles

Felting Needle
CAUTION: The felting needle is a super sharp barbed needle. Use with caution.

Happy Crocheting (And Crafting)!!

ArtFire

I wanted to pass this along to everyone - there is a new site for selling handmade called ArtFire. It looks really cool. You can sign up and sell your goods for free (up to 10 items) or you can pay the promotion sign up fee of $7.00 - the $7.00 is a promo for the first 5000 customers who sign up. With this you are allowed unlimited listings and no additional charges. If you are familiar with Etsy, you are charged for each listing plus additional fees. This has none! I love Etsy and use it. But ArtFire will be giving Etsy some competition in the future. And, after the 5,000 accounts are set up, the monthly fee will be $20.00. I signed up and joined, check it out.

I wanted to post my FO's - will post patterns and pattern information. Now that all my WIP's are done, I can start with a clean slate again... and that's a good thing. =^.^=

MIA - Continued

Well I think I am getting myself together. I have to admit, the last 2 weeks was an incredible 2 weeks - so surreal. I suffered a heart attack. You think these things happen to others, never you. But it happened. It made me look hard at myself and my life. Now comes the best part - major life changes. Diet, exercise, among other things. And meds, lots of them, whew. The paramedics were here in a flash - I take my hat off to them. They did their magic and whisked me to emergency. Spent 2 days in ICU, and the rest is history. Now on the brighter side, if you ever want to get six of the best looking guys to your place, call 911, lol. I cant say enough about my family. Everyone was there in a heartbeat, by my side, and still very supportive. My get up and go got up and went, but I read this is common in an incident like this. The meds make me very tired.

Now, getting back to myself and my stuff - I should have some goodies to post in the next couple of days.

MIA

I am back, I think. Sorry I havent posted in a while, I had some health issues. I am on the road to recovery. We take so much for granted - until a crisis hits you. I am in the process of completing some of the WIP's and some new patterns during my recoop period. A few of you requested a pattern for the Blossom Doll, which I am finalizing and having it tested. So keep your eye out for that.

Thats it for now... hopefully I wont be MIA again!

Adrianna Crocheted Collar

My crocheted collar is finished. I started this before Christmas but put it on the back burner so I can get my Xmas stuff done. The Adrianna Crocheted Collar is crocheted with Red Heart Designer Sport yarn in Brick. I really like how this yarn works up and it feels very comfortable to wear. Not too bulky or too thin, just the right amount of warmth around your neck for those chilly days. (If the yarn looks familiar, it is leftover from the Hexagon Afghan I did for my daughter). This project took a little less than a skein to complete and I used a pearlized button for the closure. It worked out great because I used one of the crocheted loops as a button hole (no need to make a button hole, lol). Anyway, here it is. I am working on the pattern.

Now to finish my other WIP's.

Sackboy Lookalike Doll

Ok here I am again, on a mission for my daughter. She asked me to make a Sackboy doll - What is a Sackboy doll I asked. Well she showed me the picture and after doing some research, found out it is the latest rage. A Playstation game called Little Big Planet. I noticed the original was a knit version, although I knit, I prefer to crochet. So I started to make one. Here is my version of a Crocheted Sackboy Doll.

Needle Felted Pets

Felted Bichon Frise

Now that the rush of Xmas is over, I can take a breath and focus on some projects. I finished a few needle felted pets, some of which I gave for Xmas as gifts. I am soooo addicted to needle felting. I needed another craft addiction like I needed a hole in the head, but oh well. It's a good addiction, lol.

Christmas 2008

Happy New Year 2009 ….

Christmas 2008 has come and gone – we spend weeks and weeks (if not months) in preparation for this wonderful holiday. Although I think the real meaning of Christmas is lost in retail commercialism, this year I swore I would not get wrapped up in that and give everything handmade, which I did. And after spending all of that time preparing for this holiday and hours in wrapping the gifts, I was watching as the gifts were passed out, and ripped to shreds in minutes, lol. But that is the nature of this holiday.

Now another year races to an end, and the new year is getting ready to embark on us all. With all the economic turbulence 2008 had, hopefully 2009 will be a better year economically. I try not get too political on my blog, but with everything that has happened in 2008, it makes me wonder where things will go and how far. Hopefully this new administration will make some changes for the good. It’s good to be optimistic.

With 2008 coming to an end and 2009 a blink away, there are a few things I am thankful for….
1 First and foremost, I am thankful for my health. I have some health issues, but nothing I can’t handle or deal with (It isn’t easy being 39, hehehe).
2. I am thankful for my daughter. She is my inspiration and my life. She is a beautiful young woman, inside and out, with a heart of gold. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her.
3. I am thankful for my family. We are close and will always remain close. We are there to help each other in a pinch, no questions asked. Isn’t that what families are for?
4. I joined Ravelry…. What an incredible place. So many talented people and a great resource for information. I met a lot of creative and talented people here. If you have not checked out Ravelry yet, please do so, and sign up to join. If you are a Raveler, you know what I mean. You will not regret it, trust me. But be warned – you will spend A LOT of time there, lol.
5. Some sad moments with the loss of my two kitties so close together, but that is the cycle of life. As responsible pet owners, we have to do what is best for our pets, regardless of how hard it is. I console myself with the fact they gave me many years of unconditional love (Midnite 16 years and Baby 14 years), which only a loving pet can give.

I can probably go on and on… So, with that said, 2009 will be a stellar craft year – let’s keep our creative juices flowing and grab 2009 by the horns and make it a successful and creative year.

Wishing everyone a Healthy, Happy, Prosperous and “Crafty” New Year!

Lend Me A Kitten

Feeling the grief for the loss of my Kitty, a fellow Raveler posted this poem - it was so touching I wanted to share it....

Lend Me A Kitten

I will lend to you for a while
a kitten, God said.
For you to love while she lives,
and mourn after she’s dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe just two or three.
But will you, ‘till I call her back,
take care of her for me?

She’ll bring her charms to gladden you
and should her stay be brief,
you’ll always have her memories
as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay,
since all from earth return.
But there are lessons you can give
I want this kitten to learn.

I’ve looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life’s land
I have chosen you.

Now will you give her all your love,
nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
my kitten home again?

And my heart replied,
“My Lord, Thy Will Be Done.”
For all the joys this kitten brings,
the risk of grief I’ll run.

We’ll shelter her with tenderness,
we’ll love her while we may.
And for the happiness that we’ve known,
forever grateful stay.

But should you call her back
much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.

If by our love we’ve managed
your wishes to achieve,
in memory of his sweet sweet love,
please help us while we grieve.

And when our cherished kitten
departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul
for us to love all his life.
